Abstract
The role of Valine and Isoleucine in low crude protein diets for piglets
Valine and isoleucine are together with leucine part of the branched chain amino acids (BCAA) and share a common metabolism. BCAAs account for more than 30% of the essential amino acids in muscle tissue, thus have a key role in protein synthesis and growth rate in animals. They are considered next limiting amino acids in weaning diets with reduced crude protein levels. Applying the correct amino acid balance and avoid interactions will be a prerequisite for weaning healthy, performant and resilient piglets.
