Ceva Genesys: From Manual to Automated Intelligent Gender Sorting - A New Era for Broiler Production
Broiler gender sorting presents significant opportunities to optimize poultry production by enhancing flock performance and carcass homogeneity, facilitating slaughter process, and possibly enabling gender-specific feeding programs optimization. Traditionally, gender sorting at hatcheries is performed manually using feather characteristics associated with fast- and slow-feathering phenotypes. However, this process is labor-intensive, operator-dependent, and provides variable sorting accuracy. The Ceva Genesys Gender Sorting System introduces an automated approach based on high-speed image recognition and analysis of day-old chicks’ wing and feather characteristics. The system provides consistent gender identification with very high accuracy while substantially increasing processing capacity and reducing dependence on manual labor. Its compact, modular design and integrated data supervision provide hatcheries with a scalable solution for efficient and reliable broiler gender sorting, representing an important step toward greater automation and precision in modern broiler production.
