Dr. Zoltán Nagy

As a plant breeder, he has worked primarily with maize. He currently oversees the institute's entire breeding and breeder seed production programme, which covers varieties of oil flax, sorghum, maize, wheat, barley and triticale.

In his work, he places particular emphasis on ensuring that new varieties are not only resilient to the challenges posed by climate change—such as drought and extreme weather—but also fully meet the requirements of their use in animal feed. Accordingly, the breeding programme also focuses on nutritional quality traits such as digestibility, energy content and overall feed quality.

The dual objective of modern plant breeding is to combine resilience with quality. In his presentation, he will provide insight into how these priorities shape the breeding strategy of the Cereal Research Non-Profit Ltd.
