Dr. Szilvia Orosz

Dr. Szilvia Orosz, PhD is an agricultural engineer, certified engineering educator, and specialist in forage production, conservation and nutritional evaluation. She earned her PhD in Agricultural Sciences and has devoted her professional career to advancing forage quality, dairy nutrition, and the practical application of feed analytical technologies. For more than 15 years, she served as Associate Professor at the Department of Animal Nutrition of Szent István University, where she also directed the Feed Analysis Laboratory. She is currently a lecturer at the Department of Animal Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest and Head of the Forage NIR Laboratory at LPT Ltd. (Gödöllő, Hungary), one of the country's leading laboratories specialising in forage quality evaluation using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR). Alongside her academic activities, Dr. Orosz works as an independent agricultural consultant, maintaining close collaboration with dairy farms across Hungary. This continuous interaction with practical farming has enabled her to bridge scientific research and on-farm decision-making. Under her professional leadership, the laboratory has developed a distinctive practice-oriented profile and has made a substantial contribution to improving forage quality assessment and dairy production efficiency in Hungary.

Between 2012 and 2022, she served as Scientific Director of the National Dairy Cattle Seminar Series, one of Hungary's largest continuing education programmes for the dairy industry. During this period, the programme comprised 80 seminar days, welcomed approximately 7,000 participants, featured 350 presentations, and hosted 88 internationally recognised invited speakers. Dr. Orosz is a member of the Editorial Board of the monthly Partner Information Newsletter published by LPT Ltd., where she also serves as technical editor of the Forage and the International sections.

During the past 15 years, she has authored approximately 500 professional articles aimed at transferring scientific knowledge into practical livestock production. Her research over the past two decades has focused on strengthening forage bank security under changing climatic conditions. Her work has covered the cultivation, ensiling and feeding of Italian ryegrass, early-harvested winter cereals, double-cropping systems involving rye or triticale followed by silage maize hybrids, forage mixtures, drought-tolerant sorghum species and Sudan grass for dairy cattle. She is particularly interested in the integration of forage production, silage technology, NIR spectroscopy, laboratory diagnostics and precision dairy nutrition. She considers university education, practice-oriented training and the dissemination of scientifically sound knowledge to agricultural professionals to be her primary professional mission. Dr. Orosz has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers with a cumulative impact factor of 21.4.
